With this flyer for the Sironka Maasai Dance Troupe, I was heavily influenced by Bring in da Noise Bring in da Funk posters designed by Paula Scher. As Scher did with her iconic poster,  I wanted to use text to show the movement of the Dance Troupe and the feeling that their music evokes. I included silhouettes of the Sironka Maasai Dancers to give visual context and let the viewer understand what kind of the performance this would be.

I designed this flyer based on a image from actually batik print made during the workshop from the year before. I used to gradients and gaussian blurs to capture the watercolor like stain of the batiking process. I used Futura to contrast the organic shape of the main image but I wanted didn’t want the text to be too overpowering so I used a thinner version of the font. I added some splashes of the batiking dye to create visual interest and show the imprecise nature of dyeing process.
